The National Australian Built Environment Rating Scheme (NABERS) is a performance-based rating system administered by the NSW Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water that measures an existing building's overall environmental performance during operation.
The ratings are based on a building's operational performance on a scale of 0 to 5, with 0 star having the poorest performance and 5 stars being world leading best practice.
The most common rating application, NABERS Office Energy, assesses the building's operational performance based on actual building data, energy use, hours of operation, net lettable area (NLA), climate and number of computers in the building.
The NABERS suite of ratings now includes:
- NABERS Office Energy (previously ABGR)
- NABERS Office Water
- NABERS Office Waste
- NABERS Office Indoor Environment
- NABERS Shopping Centres Energy
- NABERS Shopping Centres Water
- NABERS Hotels Energy
- NABERS Hotels Water
- NABERS Homes Energy
- NABERS Homes Water
